As a showcase that brings together in one place the best that every country in the world wants to present, the EXPOs (Universal Expositions) have been a great architectural laboratory.
After a long absence among global mega-events, they have re-emerged with a vengeance, and this trend is likely to continue in the future.
Peruvian participation has been far from satisfactory, and each new EXPO has been a missed opportunity. In order to reverse this situation in the short and medium term, it is up to the schools of architecture and urban planning to build the necessary capacities so that our professionals can develop projects that will allow Peru to take full advantage of such a powerful platform to present its culture, its tourist destinations and its exportable offer.
A DESIGN WORKSHOP is proposed in which the unique architecture and urban planning in which these international meetings have materialized, including the Peruvian experience, will be studied; after this stage, the following will be proposed theoretically: the design of the Peruvian Pavilion at the next Expo Dubai 2020; the design of the Master Plan for an EXPO in Peru 2030, one of the main requirements to present the candidacy to be the host.
Given that the theme of the EXPO Dubai 2020 is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, it would be ideal that the Faculty of Architecture leading the Esquisse summons the others from all over the country, Faculties of Design, Communications and other related disciplines, first of all from Peru, but also from Dubai and even from other countries (starting with Chile).
Talks are proposed on the following topics:
– How is the Expo Master Plan defined?” by Architect Rodo Tisnado, winner of the contest for the Expo Shanghai 2010 Master Plan.
– “The “THEME” of the Expo: how is it interpreted and materialized in a design ?” by:
Claudia Uccelli, designer of the Peruvian Pavilion at EXPO Yeosu 2012, whose theme was the conservation of marine and coastal ecosystems and the sustainable exploitation of their resources.
